'Raising our baby turkeys with our chicken pullets went perfect! They get along great together. But for us, the turkeys have worn out their welcome. The never really go into the coop at night, so we have to manually move them up every night - especially NOT FUN when it\'s raining. And their bad habits are rubbing off on the chickens too - they like the body heat from the turkeys, so they just huddle on the ground with them. So, it\'s time to break out the 4-year old meat chicken tractor, and move the little turkeys out on their own. We don\'t keep the tarps on the chicken tractor it over the winter, which helps them last probably twice as long. Once the tarps are installed, we\'ll move the tractor out to the goat pen and leave them there for a while. We eventually want to move them to our pig pen area, but right now they\'re probably small enough, they could fit through the holes. So for now, they\'ll live with the goats. The sun is shining, and the birds are chirping. Let\'s get some work done! ♥ Todd & Rachel A mature male turkey is called a “tom” or “gobbler,” a mature female is called a “hen,” a yearling male is a “Jake,” a yearling female is a “Jenny,” and a baby is called a “poult.” In the farm trade, a turkey under 16 weeks is a “fryer” and those 5-7 months old are called “roasters.” A group of turkeys is referred to as a flock, a “rafter,” or a “muster.” (If you want to learn more about our chicken tractor(s).
